Conflict-of-Interest Policy:

All employees must avoid activities or relationships that conflict with RICI interests or may adversely affect RICI reputation. All employees are subject to the RICI Code of ethics policy (included in this handbook). The types of activities and relationships employees must avoid, include, but are not limited to:

  • Accepting or soliciting a gift, favor, or service that is intended to, or might appear to, influence the employee’s decision-making or professional conduct.
  • Accepting, agreeing to accept, or soliciting money or other tangible or intangible benefits in exchange for the employee’s favorable decisions or actions in the performance of his or her job.
  • Accepting employment or compensation or engaging in any business or professional activity that might require disclosure of RICI confidential information, and/or compromise RICI effectiveness.
  • Accepting employment or compensation that could reasonably be expected to impair the individual’s independent judgment in the performance of his or her RICI duties.

Each employee must disclose any actual or potential conflict to his/her Supervisor and/or Department Head as soon as he/she becomes aware of such conflict. Failure to make the requisite disclosures or the resolving of conflicts of interest satisfactorily may result in disciplinary action, up to, and including, termination of employment.

Nepotism Policy

RICI will not hire applicants in a department in which an applicant’s relative is employed.
However, RICI will allow employees to be transferred or promoted into the same department as a relative, as long as the relative is in a different section and as long as there is no conflict of interest between the affected sections as determined by the HR Manager. Relatives are defined as father, mother, son, daughter, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, first cousin, nephew, niece, husband, wife, father-in- law, mother in-law, son-in-law, daughter-in-law, brother-in-law, sister-in-law, step father, step-mother, step-son, step daughter, step-brother, step- sister, half-brother, and half-sister.

An employee may not appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for the appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement in or to a position, of any individual who is a relative of the employee. An individual may not be appointed, employed, promoted, or advanced in or to a position if such an appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement has been advocated by an employee who is a relative of the individual.
